YTL
Corporation Berhad is one of Malaysia's foremost integrated infrastructure
development companies, having grown and developed along with the country.
As a modest construction start-up company in 1955, YTL's first project was
to help the British build ammunition depots and garrisons to help fight
the communist insurgence. During the nation's formative years, YTL progressed
alongside the country, answering the need for public sector expansion and
institutional buildings. The town halls of the Petaling Jaya Municipal Council
and Klang, are examples of YTL's early involvement in the nation's progress.
In the 1970's, YTL expanded into more industrial development projects, building
steel mills, textile factories and educational facilities.
YTL also brought its expertise to the rural
areas of the country, with a variety of agricultural projects. In the 1980's,
YTL moved on to build many high-rise offices, including the
Citibank, Malaysia Airlines and UMBC buildings; distinctive structures that are now
conspicuous landmarks on the Kuala Lumpur skyline. In 1990's, the company answered
the country's need for a comprehensive rural healthcare network,
helping the Government implement its "Nucleus Concept" hospitals.
